RECONDITIONING
Article taken from February 2006 GM Profit & Protection warranty newsletterReconditioning or refurbishing a GM vehicle prior to its resale is not the responsibility of GM and should not be submitted as a new vehicle warranty claim. The process is rather the dealer's responsibility, to improve the condition and value of the vehicle prior to its resale.
Reconditioning or refurbishing involves improving the value of the vehicle by such measures as replacing worn brake pads, damaged trim and upholstery, repairing chips, scratches and nicks in the paint surface and other general maintenance items.
The new vehicle limited warranty deals only with defects in materials and workmanship while the vehicle is under the New Vehicle or Emissions Warranty.
"Under no circumstances are used vehicles being traded, purchased from GM Auction, or in dealer inventory eligible for goodwill adjustment repairs."
The process of improving the vehicles value through reconditioning or completing maintenance items is considered to be included as part of the cost of the used vehicle.
- Other items NOT covered by the warranty:
- Normal tire wear or wear out
- Damage caused by accidents, misuse, alterations or modifications
- Damage caused by airborne fallout
- Damage caused by failure to follow the recommended maintenance schedule intervals
- Damage caused by the normal wear of a bedliner
- Maintenance services are at the owner's expense
- Economic loss or extra expense is not covered
- Items listed on the Pre- Delivery Inspection form
- Carrier damage is not warranty, covered as a transportation claim
- Storage damage
- Non-GM parts or a failure resulting from non-GM parts
- Shop supplies and waste disposal fees-considered part of the dealers fixed operation expense
- Damage resulting from poor fuel quality or contaminated fuel
In some situations it may not be clear as to whether a warranty claim should be submitted or if the customer is financially accountable. If the dealer is unsure of financial responsibility, the GM Service Representative should be contacted for clarification.
