Common Rejects
Article taken from August 2004 Chrysler Profit & Protection warranty newsletter

Reject #1 - Still number one on the list for LOP rejects for the summer was the PCM LOP, 08-19-01-01. 85% of the rejected claims had message code LD1, LOP does not apply to vehicle as equipped or LE1, failure code is invalid. LOP 08-19-01-01 does not apply to all vehicles in every case. It is important to identify the type of controller you are dealing with. If it is a next generation controller the appropriate labor operation would be 08-19-06-XX. The DO failure code (Die Outs) was the code that generated the majority of the message code LE1 edits. Although the failure code was listed in the LOP books, the system did not recognize it as being legitimate. The system has since been updated and will now allow failure code DO.

Reject #2 - TSB 24-004-04 labor operation 24-01-02-91, compressor/ clutch replacement accounted for 84% of the rejected claims with message code LG4, labor time included in another LOP listed on the claim, mainly 24-01-02-01 for system test, recovery and recharge. The TSB LOP already has the recovery and recharge time allowance factored into it.

Reject #3 - The third highest rejection correlates to the second in the list, labor operation 24-01-02-01, system test, recovery and recharge. 73% of the claims from May and June rejected with code LE1, invalid failure code and LG4, labor time included in another LOP listed on the claim. Generally, related labor operations do not have failure codes associated with them; some exceptions, powertrain group repairs and some air conditioning. The use of the labor operation with the LOP’s from TSB 24-004-04 cause an overlap. The system test, recovery and recharge are included within the TSB labor operations.

Reject #4 - Message code LC2 accounted for 67% of the message code edits LOP used after termination date. The use of LOP 21-00-11-39 has been terminated for all car lines for model years 2004-2005. For car lines from 2001-2003 labor operation 21-00-15-01 should be used.

Reject #5 - Labor operation
08-19-01-00, “00” for the PCM, accounted for 73% of the rejects. Since August 2001, the LOP to correct a PCM has been terminated. The Powertrain Control Module may only be replaced or flashed. When performing a PCM flash check for any TSB’s that may apply.

Reject #6 - Labor operation
21-10-02-93, compressor/clutch replace within TSB 24-004-04 accounted for 77% of the rejected claims with message code LG4, labor time included in another LOP. The TSB LOP has the refrigerant service time included, there is no need to submit 24-01-02-01 with the TSB.

Reject #7 - 100% of rejected Operation Diagnostics with repair claims had either message code LE1 or LE2. 85-41-00-00 is a related LOP, there are no failure codes associated with it. The diagnostic LOP is to be used with the appropriate prime/ causal LOP when unusual problems occur above and beyond the prime/causal LOP.

Reject #8 - 82% of the rejected claims associated with message code LE1 or LE2 were in conjunction with LOP 21-00-05-34, transaxle 4 speed remove and install. This LOP does not have a failure code associated with it. Failure codes may not be applied to powertrain remove and install labor operations.

Reject #9 - Labor operation
21-31-01-50 Group A repair 45RFE transmission accounted for 56% of the rejects with message code LG4, repair time included in another LOP on the claim. Group A LOP’s for a 45RFE transmission have the torque converter remove and install time factored in. There is no need to separately claim for the labor to remove the torque converter with this group repair.

Reject #10 - Labor operation
21-30-06-55, 45RFE transmission-Group E repairs, account for 96% of the month's rejected claims with message code LC2, LOP used after termination date. The Group E LOP is no longer valid for a complete recondition. Labor operation
21-00-15-01 should be used instead for remove and install for reconditioning along with the appropriate related group repairs.

Reject #11 - Failure codes may not be assigned to remove and install LOP’s for transmissions. Failure codes are assigned to the related group repair LOP associated with the component replaced.
21-00-07-33, transaxle remove and install, accounted for 94% of the rejected claims with message code LE1 or LE2, failure code invalid.

Take a moment to review the above labor operations and their corresponding message codes. The time invested may help in preventing unnecessary claim rejects.
